The quick guide to sending SMS using Email.

If you spend a lot of time working from your email or wish to be able to trigger text messages using an email system. You can format an email address to send to that will send a text message. For more detailed information and options for sending SMS using email see:

How to format your email

To send an SMS using your email, set the To: field to the mobile number you're sending to in your chosen format eg.

04XXXXXXXX@transmitsms.com

or

614XXXXXXX@transmitsms.com

Add this address to the To/CC fields of your email client

Depending on your settings you can choose to send internationally by providing the full number with country code or you can select a country in the email sms settings to enable using a local number format.

You can set as many recipients as you like in the to field to send as individual messages or if you would like to send as a broadcast you can use the cc field to process all the recipients in a single report.

When you send the email, the recipient will get the message as a text.

You must ensure that the from address is configured in the Email SMS settings in your account.

How to set up Email SMS

If you want to receive replies back to your email leave the subject blank for the message to be sent back to the virtual number assigned to the authorised email.

The recipient will receive the message using the sender ID configured in the Email SMS options. This can be overridden using any validated custom sender by adding it to the subject line of the email. You will not receive replies to the email if overriding with a custom sender ID.

Sending SMS to a list using Email

Email SMS to Contact List combines the simplicity of Email SMS with the scalability of Contact Lists.

Once configured, you can send a single email and it will convert and distribute the SMS to all recipients in a contact list.

You will need an authorised email sender by following instructions above.

Go to your contact list and select Automation.

Select YES for Email Trigger and provide a unique name for the list.

You can now use that email address to send an Email SMS to that list.

Email SMS sends are labelled in Activity Overview as Email SMS under Type.
